If you’re a frequent visitor to the site or are on our facebook/myspace/twitter friends list you’ll know that Save A Scream just got some Save A Scream wristbands. I love them. I think they are awesome. They are red and black and match the website! Hehe. They also say SAVE A SCREAM AGAINST ALL ANIMAL CRUELTY in embossed white text around them. I have not taken mine off since I got them.
You can order them at www.saveascream.com/merchandise.htm. If you’re in the UK they are £2 with 50p of that going to the BUAV (British Union for the Abolition of Vivisection). If you’re in Europe they’re £3 and if you’re in the USA/Rest of the world they are £4 due to postal prices. I am not making any money from these at all because I only ordered 100 and they cost about £1.33 to make each one and postage is included in the £2. But I would love everyone to order one. If nothing else, it’s a subtle way to let others know you’re against animal cruelty.
Personally I don’t wear T-shirts when I go out… I only ever wear velvet… although of course on my bag I have a PETA keyring telling people to love animals, not eat them, and I have various animal rights and vegan badges. I have a VEGAN patch on a shoulder of one jacket, and a PETA patch on a velvet top. But now I also have a silicone wristband letting others know I’m against all animal cruelty.
We’ve made it into double figures but I’d like all of these wristbands to sell - purely for the fact that I want to be able to give BUAV £50 from the total sales. But we’ll see who decides to buy them. I know that silicone wristbands are not for everyone and neither is the colour (although I think red and black is quite symbolical when it comes to animal rights… or animal cruelty). I was a bit offended that today a friend of a friend said the wristbands were ugly! It makes me wonder what else she thinks is ugly. Would she decide she didn’t like certain dogs if they were too ‘ugly’ for her. Sure, not everyone will like silicone wristbands - but calling them ugly!? If I didn’t like something I’d say ‘it wasn’t my sort of thing’. I would not call it ugly. I guess beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I never said these wristbands were the prettiest things… but… I think the message is not ugly. The message is saying something important. Maybe turning your nose up against something that hopes to make a differences is what is really ugly.
I’m hoping to be at the National March for Farmed Animals on October 2nd in London. If I can pluck up the courage maybe I will ask some of the others on the coach going down if they want to buy a wristband in person. I’m a shy person and don’t like trying to ‘sell’ things… but obviously if you want to make a difference… if you want to raise money for animals in need… sometimes you need to be brave and speak up.
In the meantime, if you have £2 and Paypal, go buy one at www.saveascream.com/merchandise.htm
If you think they’re too ugly, buy it for a friend!
