I had some last minute inspiration for a gig yesterday. When I was in Madrid last weekend it meant that I missed Less Than Jake playing Birmingham. I LOVE Less Than Jake. Their shows are always super-fun and their music is great (on top of that, Zebrahead were supporting who are also a great band). So when a fellow photographer mentioned that she was going to photograph them again in Nottingham on Saturday my first thought was ‘Ooh, Saturday, I wanna go!’ A friend agreed to come and we headed to Nottingham yesterday afternoon. Getting there at around 3.15, we then went in search of Alley Cafe Bar. I had had a quick look on www.happycow.net to see what veggie/vegan places were in Nottingham and Alley Cafe Bar looked the best. After parking the car by Rock City we discovered it was only 300 or so yards away. Perfect!
We found it easily - it’s right in the city centre. Although I would possibly have missed the alleyway had my friend not pointed it out. You go up a small alley on Longrow West and there it is.

Inside it looked quite busy and thriving. Lots of people eating. There were a couple of seats free, so we could sit and view the menu straight away. They have a great selection of vegan/veggie food. You can view the menu on their website at www.alleycafe.co.uk I opted for the BLT-not while my friend chose the Tempting Tempeh Burger. I had my usual (organic) soya hot chocolate which was delicious and all gone before the BLT-not arrived. I also liked the look of the brownies up in a casing on the side of the wall, so I asked for one of those to takeaway. My only disappointment was that the brownie seemed to cost about £3 for something quite small and it wasn’t as soft as I’d have liked. But the BLT-not was perfect… and I pinched a couple of potato wedges that came with my friend’s tempeh burger.

(Had a bite before I remembered I should take a pic!)
They have lots of tempting things on their menu. I was tempted by the soya milk shake (you can choose the flavours) - although decided not to part with £2.65 for one. If only I was made of money! If I lived in Nottingham I would definitely come to Alley Cafe Bar frequently - although I can imagine I’d end up penniless after doing so! I definitely recommend Alley Cafe though, especially if you’re not in Nottingham often. Infact, have a BLT-not if you’re not in Nottingham often! It’s a great place to eat with a great selection. I wish we had an Alley Cafe Bar in Birmingham.
