Are men the weaker sex?

There’s a new series of ‘Kill It, Cook It, Eat It’ on TV this week. I was actually flicking through the channels a couple of nights ago and noticed it but thought it was a repeat of the programme I’d watched last year, or the year before… so I didn’t stop to watch. Last night a (meat-eating) friend came on MSN and asked ‘Are you watching BBCthree?’ I was like ‘No. Why?’ He told me it was a new series of the prog. So I turned on and caught the second half of the programme about how pigs are made into meat. You saw pigs in the farm, the super-cute piglets having their testicles cut off with a razorblade and squealing like crazy, then the two fattest adult pigs getting chosen to be slaughtered… You see them in the abattoir being stunned and then put on the chain, having their throats slit open and the blood pouring out. Then put in this big metal thing to be washed over or steamed with water. You saw someone pulling their toe nails off. All before they end up in the supermarket and then on your plate. Ewww.

My meat eating friend ended up saying “I’m turning over, can’t watch anymore”. Is he a man or a mouse? How come a guy can’t watch this but a girl like me can? Sure it’s not nice, but come on…! If you think it’s so sick you have to turn if off, why eat those animals?

Maybe men are the weaker sex. Or maybe it’s just that us vegans/vegetarians know the truth and don’t try to deny it that makes us the strong ones. Opening your heart and letting it care makes you a stronger person. Facing your fears allows you to stand tall. Would you rather close the doors and pull the blinds down and be forever scared when there is a big exciting world out there? If you don’t step into the unknown you will never know where you could end up. One moment of horror or shock can be the start of joy, happiness and real fulfillment and enlightenment.

The new chicken episode of ‘Kill It, Cook It, Eat It’ is on tonight at 10.30pm BBCthree. And ‘Kill It, Cook It, Eat It’ will be on tomorrow night too. Look out for repeats if you’ve missed any of this week’s shows so far.
