I’m reading Richard Bacon’s column in The Sun at the moment. He has a small piece about how Kraft are buying Cadbury and how in his opinion American chocolate tastes bad. He seems terrified at the prospect of Cadbury being taken over. It’s almost as if he thinks Cadbury is the only UK chocolate in the whole of the country… and that if it changes in any way, omgzzz, how will we survive?
Dear Mr Bacon. I have news. We have vegan chocolate. We have loads of it. All over the UK. And it’s great. You need to try it. You would not even miss Cadbury if you tried some of this vegan chocolate.
There are so many types of vegan chocolate out there made by lots of independent companies. Yes, they’re not as well known as the massive machine of Cadbury - but they’re equally as good. I’ve tasted Conscious chocolate, Dairy Free chocolate, Organica chocolate, Plamil chocolate, and handmade vegan chocolates from independent chocolate makers - and they’re all better than Cadbury. I was going to say that they were ‘as good as, if not better’ - but the fact that they are all cruelty free means that they are better.
Cadbury may be a British institution, but it’s another example of how one massive company can overshadow many smaller ones that are equally as good but just haven’t had a lucky break. These vegan chocolate companies deserve to be as big as Cadbury just for the fact that no animals are abused in any way. The fact that they taste as good as Cadbury is proof that no animals are needed for food production.
Yes, it’s sad that another big company has been caught in the firing line of the recession. It’s sad when you’ve built something up and then in the end it disintegrates. But… it’s not vegan. And there are better companies selling vegan ranges. So… who cares? If you think you’re going to miss Cadbury then your life is too sheltered, your view is too narrow-minded. Think outside the box and try cruelty free chocolate instead.
