Not So Fabulous This Week

So the general election is coming up. Who are you voting for? If today’s ‘Fabulous’ Magazine (the News Of The World’s magazine) is anything to go by, apparently you only have 3 choices - the Conservatives, Labour or Liberal Democrats. Hello? What happened to the Green party? We won’t mention the BNP. But what about the Independence party too? ‘Fabulous’ mag have a ‘politics special’ but can it really be called special when there are only 3 parties featured? Your average Joe Bloggs probably doesn’t know he can even vote for anyone other than the Tories, Labour or Lib Dems. It’s all very well reading what the Tories, Labour and Lib Dems think about different subjects, what changes they’d make etc, but I’m not voting for any of them. And I can do without morons with no brains voting for them either. Or at least voting for the Tories, who don’t care about normal people on minimum wages. And only care about crap, cruel things such as bringing back fox hunting.

I’ve just got to the section ‘Who gives the best deal on childcare?’ This actually makes me question what is going on in our country. I have no children, I never want any. I have not really paid attention to what parents get but I now see that there is free nursery education available. This actually annoys me. I mean, it is your decision whether to have a child or not. If you have one you should be able to afford to pay for any education - nursery or otherwise. It drives me crazy that there are people on minimum wage, or even who can’t get a job that can barely afford to pay bills and go into debt - yet they’re offering free nursery education to kids. And then you get couples claiming benefit that have kid after kid after kid. I guess they have no money to afford condoms… With so many people out of work because there are no jobs, surely it would be better not to encourage people to have more kids by offering free nursery education.

Also, Conservatives say they will charge married couples less tax. That’s something else unfair. I’m single. Why should it be cheaper for married people than single people? I’m not going to marry someone I don’t particularly like just to save money, and married folk shouldn’t have special benefits - surely that would keep unhappy couples together when they don’t want to be. That is something I hate about going on holiday. When you book hotels a single person has to often pay the same as a room for 2. Why can’t hotels make smaller rooms for single people so we can have a cheaper price. We shouldn’t be forced to pay the same price that 2 people pay together if we are travelling alone. Maybe I ought to set up my own political party ‘The Single Party’ - for those that don’t want to feel like they have to be joined at the hip to someone else their whole life.

The 2 page Fabulous article fails to mention many areas that we need to think about. They don’t mention the minimum wage, they don’t mention transport, crime, the war situation, the environment. Yet people reading it will probably think ‘ok, this party sounds good, I’ll vote for them’ without really knowing the whole story, without realising how worse off they’ll become, and how much of their money is going to be wasted on things that won’t be of any benefit.

Personally I think the Green Party’s broadcast speaks sense. And they know what matters - a higher minimum wage, a decent pension, more jobs and more. It is insane that they are focused on the right needs yet they get dismissed and forgotten about because they’re smaller than those ‘main three’. No doubt either the Conservatives or Labour will win and yet again our country will be a mess - for another x amount of years. They will fail the poor people, fail to get unemployment levels lower, and fail in every other area too. I just can’t wait… Can you?
